Butterscotch Brownies

1/4 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup all purpose flour - sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
In saucepan combine butter and brown sugar. Cook over low heat till mixture bubbles. Stir constantly. Cool slightly. Beat in egg and vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir into mixture. Spread into greased square cake pan.

Topping:
1 egg white
1 Tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup nuts (optional-eww)
Bea tegg whites to soft peaks. Gradually add corn syrup, then sugar. Beat to soft peaks.  Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
